A Multiphase Fluid-solid Model Based on the Level Set Method

چکیده

The level set method provides a natural framework for modelling multiphase phenomena in a Eulerian basis. The method is based on the evolution of the signed distance function from interfaces between phases of the flow, and automatically captures complex topological changes of the free surfaces such as breaking and merging. We present an extension to the level set method for modelling the interaction between fluids and elastic solids, where the level set defines the boundary between fluid and solid. The multiphase method varies the underlying stress tensor depending on the sign of the level set, changing smoothly from a rate of strain dependency within the liquid to a hypo-elastic strain dependency within the solid. We apply the model to two test problems, showing the potential of the model for industrial applications involving the coupled interaction of deformable elastic solids and fluids.

Multiphase flow and tromp curve simulation of dense medium cyclones using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Dense Medium Cyclone is a high capacity device that is widely used in coal preparation. It is simple in design but the swirling turbulent flow, the presence of medium and coal with different density and size fraction and the presence of the air-core make the flow pattern in DMCs complex. In this article the flow pattern simulation of DMC is performed with computational fluid dynamics and Fluent...

CFD Modeling of the Feed Distribution System of a Gas-Solid Reactor

Granular flow simulation using CFD has received a lot of attention in recent years. In such cases, CFD is either, coupled with Discrete Element Method (DEM) techniques for appropriate incorporation of inter-particle collisions, or the Eulerian CFD approach is used in which granular particles are treated as they were fluid. In the present study, a CFD analysis was performed...

Multi-Component-Multiphase Flash Calculations for Systems Containing Gas Hydrates by Direct Minimization of Gibbs Free Energy

The Michelsen stability and multiphase flash calculation by direct minimization of Gibbs free energy of the system at constant temperature and pressure, was used for systems containing gas hydrates. The solid hydrate phase was treated as a solid solution. The fugacities of all components of the hydrate phase were calculated as a function of compositions by the rearranged model of van der Wa...

Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamics of a Two-Dimensional Gas—Solid Fluidized Bed by New Finite Volume Based Finite Element Method

n this work, computational fluid dynamics of the flow behavior in a cold flow of fluidized bed is studied. An improved finite volume based finite element method has been introduced to solve the two-phase gas/solid flow hydrodynamic equations. This method uses a collocated grid, where all variables are located at the nodal points. The fluid dynamic model for gas/solid two-phase flow is based on ...
